The 6ix got it’s name from 2 places;
Up until 1998, the city that is now Toronto was broken up in to six different cities; Toronto, Scarborough, North York, York, East York, and In 1998, the Government of Ontario decided to combine the six cities, proposing it was a cost saving measure. As a result of the amalgamation* Toronto is now one big city, and currently the 4th largest city in North America, behind Mexico City, New York, and Los Angeles.
The second began with Drake and his ultra media presence. After his surprise mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late hit the No. 1 spot on Canadian and U.S. charts this year, he became the first rapper to top the influential Billboard Artist 100. Kanye West declared in an interview with GQ last year that Drake was the most popular man in rap music. Within that album release, there were a number of references to the six or The 6ix (as we now spell it). The name quickly caught within Twitter and other social streams, since than, we haven’t looking back. Thank you Drake!
Runnin’ through the 6 with my woes, Countin’ money you know how it goes, Pray the real live forever man, Pray the fakes get exposed
